Once you go there, you will find three churches, such as Saint Athanasius, St. Christopher and Ossia Irene Chrysovalantou, however, the city’s patron is Agia Paraskevi.
The town is built above an ancient city called Asa. Metagkitsi got its name from the phrase “μελαινα γη” which refers to the reddish soil found in the area and the “transfusion” of the populations that were saved in the surrounding areas after the Romanies destroyed the present village.
